What actors are pushing for the digitalisation of adaptation, and in what sectors? Are digital solutions economically sustainable, or are we \u2018only\u2019 seeing a phase of hype which will not last long?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which epistemologies are represented \/erased by digital climate services, who is included in\/excluded from their design? What are the promises and risks of digital climate adaptation? What determines whether digitalisation leads to more inclusive and effective adaptation practices, or to forms of \u2018data colonialism\u2019 and \u2018accumulation by adaptation\u2019?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, importantly, how does \u2018digitalised adaptation\u2019 look like in practice?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to explore these questions, <em>Digital Climate Futures<\/em> carried out a global <strong>mapping of digital platforms for climate services<\/strong>\u202fand resilience, documenting how the digital is entering global adaptation policy discourses and initiatives, identifying key sectors of applications, technologies and narratives, as well as actors and coalitions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We carried out a <strong>structured analysis of academic and grey literature<\/strong> and conducted <strong>interviews with experts <\/strong>(scholars across social sciences and STEM, practitioners at local and international level, digital entrepreneurs, coders\/modellers).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the article <em>Smart adaptation or data colonialism?<\/em>, published in\u00a0<em>Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space<\/em>, we developed a framework to interrogate the role of digital technologies in climate adaptation, synthesising the findings from the mapping, and making the case for a critical engagement with the ever-expanding territory of smart adaptation.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/25148486251409982\">Read the article \u2192<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We created a <strong>database<\/strong> of examples of climate adaptation projects including a significant digital component.
